FLOWERED Second Regional Workshop

The Sahara and Sahel Observatory, organizes, in collaboration with University of Cagliari (Italy), and University of Eldoret (Kenya), the second regional workshop of the FLOWERED project ("de-FLuoridation technologies for imprOving quality of WatEr and agRo-animal products along the East African Rift Valley in the context of aDaptation to climate change"), from 24 to 28 th September 2018.

This workshop aims at pursuing the creation of an interactive and participatory dialogue to provide a precious feedback to the FLOWERED project activities and will allow to share and disseminate the information generated by the project and its intermediate results/outputs, during its two first years.

This workshop is expected to raise public awareness on the de-Fluoridation technologies for improving water and agro-animal products, thus improving livelihood conditions of the population.

On this occasion, several events will be organized, such as:

  • Regional Conference: 24 th September 2018, Hotel WaterBuck
  • Poster session : 24 th September 2018, Afternoon, Hotel WaterBuck
  • Exchange of experience in the form or field visit, in Nakuru study area: 25 th September
  • Third steering committee and 2nd General Assembly of FLOWERED Consortium: 26th September
  • Awareness day for Scholars, Piave School, Nakuru: 28 th September

FLOWERED is a 3 years project (June 2016 – May 2019), financed by the European Union. It’s objective is to contribute to the development of a sustainable water management system in areas affected by fluoride (F) contamination in water, soils and food in the African Rift Valley countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania), thus to improve living standards (environmental, health and food security) of its population.

FLOWERED aims to study, test and implement innovative defluoridation technologies for drinking and irrigation water that will mainly operate at small village scale and to develop an integrated, sustainable and participative water and agriculture management at a cross-boundary catchment scale.


This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement N°690378
