Collection of Data throught a new App, Nakuru (Kenya)

A field activity (related to WP4) has been carried out by the team of UNICA and UOE, in Nakuru study area (Kenya) from March 20th to 24th. This activity was devoted to the following actions:

  • test FLOWERED GeoDBapp in the field
  • to validate the first draft of the land cover map using FLOWERED GeoDBapp
  • to collect data on land use and water use
  • to train students and staff of University of Eldoret on the use of FLOWERED SHAREGeonetwork system.

Most of the activities were dedicated to the testing of the app and to the collection of ground truth, and validation points of the land cover map.

A specific activity has been dedicated to the collection of information on water use and land use, involving local communities to collect the data on water contamination through the app.

The team from UOE was composed by the coordinator Dr Wambu for the first two days, by Prof Mwasi during the last two ones, and by four young researchers: Kimberly Kipkorir, Goofry Yatov, Zedkiah Ongeri, Samson Odhiambo.

These collaborators were chosen by Prof Mwasi on the basis of their skills in GIS and remote sensing mapping, and they have demonstrated to be ready and smart to begin the new work in the field. The workgroup was completed by the team from UNICA: Dr Maria Teresa Melis and Dr Francesco Dessì.
