Water & Climate Congress, 22-24 March 2017, Boksburg, South Africa

The #FLOWERED project took part at the Local Climate Solutions for Africa (LoCS4Africa) Congress, held under ICLEI Africa’s Urban Leadership for African Sustainability (ULAS) programme. This is held under the framework of celebrating the World Water Day.

The FLOWERED project contributed to the session entitled "Sustainable WaSH in the Age of Climate Change" wich aim is to "Gain a comprehensive view on climate change implications for WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) actors and learn about innovative solutions, such as thermal desalination and defluoridation technologies".

FLOWERED is represented by the project Coordinator Prof. Giorgio Ghiglieri who showed defluoridation technologies as innovative solutions which contribute the development of a sustainable water management system in the African Rift Valley countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania), an areas affected by fluoride (F) contamination in water, soils and food.

LoCS4Africa 2017: Water & Climate Congress is the fourth gathering of this platform, building momentum and acknowledging the legacy of the preceding pan-African events that were co-hosted by ICLEI Africa and the City of Cape Town (2011), the City of Dar es Salaam (2013) and eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality (2015).
This congress will also include the official Inaugural Launch Conference of #AfriAlliance (the Africa-EU Innovation Alliance for Water and Climate), which is a 5-year project funded by the European Union’s H2020 Research and Innovation Programme. It aims to improve African preparedness for climate change challenges by stimulating knowledge sharing and collaboration between African and European stakeholders.
